Then and now

Today was a hectic day to say the least. Last night I had a job interview that I thought was going to take 30 minutes (at most) for a position at a therapeutic summer program. Given that I am in Denmark, the woman who was doing my interview was willing to do the interview over skype, but wasn't able to begin until she got back from the office at 5pm her time (east coast), meaning 11pm my time. About 2 minutes into our call I knew I was in for a long night...

Fast forward THREE HOURS and five minutes later to when I closed my computer and took a deep breath... exhaustion can't even begin to describe the feeling. I had been through one hour of "crash course" information, one hour of personal reflective questions and answers, 30 minutes of my questions, and 30 minutes of "role plays." It was after 2am and I was totally wound up... so much [incredibly overwhelming] information. The job sounds amazing, but also like a lot of stress. I won't know for 4-5 weeks whether I am offered a spot anyway, and she started the interview by saying that the application process is very competitive... between 8-10 people apply for every one position available, so we'll see. Fingers crossed!! Needless to say, I fell asleep just after 3am totally and completely exhausted.

I got up this morning at 9am, rolled over, realized I was still collapsing, and called into my volunteer placement and told them I couldn't come in. I fell back asleep until 12:30pm when my alarm went off and woke up still pretty tired, though at least somewhat refreshed. I tried to get things together for my trip tomorrow while also beginning laundry, unloading the dishwasher, making lunch, and returning a million emails. I was in quite a frazzled state, but somehow made it out the door on time to meet one of my oldest and dearest friends from home, Alexandra!

Alex and I grew up together in Bethesda and were best friends through all of elementary school. She moved when we started sixth grade and while we've seen each other since (including in high school), we haven't really caught up in years and years. Turns out she is playing pro-basketball in Denmark (!!!!) this year, also living with a host family outside of the city. Thanks to our mothers we were able to get in touch and finally got together!

Now
Then

We've got big plans to hang out again soon, and hopefully I will be able to go to a couple of her games over the next few weeks. It was really awesome to see her, and gave us a chance to talk about differences between our lives back in the states and our lives here. I've been needing that.

At my Danish home I made some dinner (I was not aware until I got back that my host family was out for the night), and have been busy trying to put things together. I *hopefully* will get to bed reasonably early because tomorrow I have to leave the house at 5:55am at the absolute latest. I won't have internet while on my Study tour, which means I probably won't be able to blog again until Sunday morning. I will be taking lots of pictures (of course) and will have plenty to share upon my return!

Se dig søndag! (See you Sunday)
