The Copenhagen Amazing Race cont.

After our venture at the Royal Palace, our group went off and found the building that houses parliament and the Prime Minister. We continued on and took a much needed break at Studenterhuset, the student union. We tried to figure out how to use our cheapo-phones to navigate and enjoyed delicious pastries (free of charge this week as a welcome present to DIS students).
Attempting to connect with the outside world using free WiFi and our tiny phones
SO delicious!

Another checkpoint: a church and observatory and library in one! Combining science, art (literature) and God all in one convenient location!
Inside the church
We then found our way to the Rosenborg castle, which at that hour of the day, was spectacular! We enjoyed taking many photos, chatting with members of the Danish army, running around the grounds and gardens, frantically looking for the DIS person(who we never found) to stamp our map, petting dogs, and watching the drill practice of training soldiers. See the photos below:

I stopped to take a picture just as hundreds of birds took off from a near-by tree

The poor ducks were literally standing in ice

Attention!
Note the little dog (it's probably too small to see her pony tail) in the walkway
To end our adventure, after returning to the classroom, debriefing, and presenting information to the other groups, my group went to St. Peder's bakery for afternoon snacks and (for those of us attending the evening Activities Fair) an early dinner to-go. Things were delicious and are discounted on Wednesdays with a student ID so we were in luck!
I had the chicken and mozzarella sandwich on the bottom tray...yum!
Bicycle, fogged window with tasty treats, early afternoon darkness setting in
Well that's it! I think I am all caught up! And I can say with certainty that having raced around the city, I am feeling much more confident in navigating alone. With luck, tomorrow I will be able to get to all of my classes on time. In the evening we are going as a family to a friend's house. In fact, this weekend is like a giant string of meet and greets (including a Saturday dinner with Lars' whole family)! I'll post with a few photos at some point over the weekend and hopefully I will snag a few shots of Lars, Helle, and Kasper so you can get a look at them too! :)

  1. Fantastic. Its like being there with you and reminds me so much of our time in Stockholm and my trips to several other European cities -- except of course you can see Copenhagen is also unique. Its also fun seeing your colleagues at DIS. I'm jealous of all of you and can't wait for the next posting including "meeting" your family in greater detail. XO!
